More Revealed About Technology That Will Power Crest Surf Clubs

Long Islanders Chris and Brett Portera announced the launch of Crest Surf Clubs several years ago. Their goal is to open a members-only social club featuring a state-of-the-art wave venue. The $35 million project, initially known as Long Island Surf Park, now carries the name Crest New York.

For years, the public speculated about which wave-generating technology would power the facility. Early renderings displayed a rectangular pool design, with waves forming from the deep end. At present, all open and operating surf parks worldwide use systems from Endless Surf, Surf Loch, PerfectSwell, Wavegarden, or KSWaveCo.

Alex Poirot at Center of New Announcement

Today, Crest Surf Clubs introduced Alexandre Poirot as Chief Technology Officer and partner. Poirot has a background in computational fluid dynamics and wave system engineering. Crest highlighted his prior leadership roles in the artificial wave industry, including engineering contributions to the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch. His technical focus includes CFD modeling, hydrofoil design, wave profile development, and energy redistribution systems.

“Alex has been instrumental in the development of Crest’s wave technology, and we’re thrilled to formalize his role as CTO and Partner,” said Brett Portera of Crest Surf Clubs. “His leadership ensures that Crest continues to deliver world-class surf experiences with a proven, scalable, and efficient system. This appointment reflects our commitment to innovation as we expand Crest’s footprint in the U.S. and beyond.”

Crest New York broke ground in 2023. The surf park will feature proprietary wave technology from Premier Surf Systems as part of its $35M surf club project.

The Role at Crest Surf Clubs

As CTO, Poirot will guide the technical advancement of Premier Surf Systems which says it has a variety of wave types. Crest plans to scale both nationally and internationally. The company positions its surf parks as energy-efficient, customizable, and well-suited to compact urban locations.

“Crest Surf Clubs represents the next chapter in surf technology — combining science, precision engineering, and community to make high-quality surf more accessible,” said Poirot. I’m honored to join as CTO and Partner and excited to help shape the future of the sport.”

Crest plans to open its first location on Long Island, N.Y. In 2023 they broke ground and announced they would open in 2024. The company said they plan to grow a national network of surf parks. According to the company, its model integrates sport, real estate, and lifestyle. Each site will feature customizable artificial wave pools designed to accommodate families and experienced surfers alike.
