Ultra-Luxury $45 Million Wave Pool Coming to New York

New York City, much to the surprise of nobody whatsoever, is often considered one of the most expensive cities in the world, according to cost of living. I was recently there, in fact, and a hot dog from a street vender cost me nearly $11 bucks. Absurdity.

But that’s life in the Big Apple. And to many, it’s the greatest city in the world. Worth it?

So, when a new wave pool proposal came along for Long Island, it’s not a shocker that there’s some big price tags associated with the development. Dubbed Crest Surf Club, the new facility is seeking $45 million in investments to build the project, and annual membership fees for this ultra-luxury, private surf park will reportedly cost $20,000.

As mentioned, the club will be private, exclusive, and luxurious. Speaking to Surf Park Central about the project, CEO Brett Portera described the concept:

“Crest is meant to inspire a lux feel to surfing. We’ve taken the approach as a stand-alone private club very much akin to that of a country club or any other private club for that matter except our main amenity is the surf pool. From a business perspective, this allows Crest to run as a much more nimble operation which should in turn provide for a more manageable and scalable model. By looking to utilize a subscription based model, our costs to build and operate are arguably less and more predictable allowing for a much more attractive business case.”

As for the wave-making technology used at Crest, they’re not going with one of the major players already operating in the wave pool space. They’re doing it on their own. Portera, elaborating on what surfers can expect from the tech, said:

“At Crest, our members will be able to expect a technology that not only caters to all levels and pushes progression, but also the ability to customize their lineup. Whether you’re looking for a mellower setting or a screaming barrel we plan to be able to cater to everyone’s pursuit of their perfect wave. Think about all the best facets of the different techs on the market and now imagine combining those in a more compact footprint. That is what Premier Surf Systems will deliver at Crest. The height, shape, and variety of all the different techs combined into one.”

Stay tuned for more to come on this one.
